Q. In what circumstances would you need an expansion joint profile?
A. An expansion joint profile prevents the tiles from tenting or popping, it also prevents fissures in a concrete base. When correctly positioned an expansion joint prevents random fissures occurring. Expansion joint profiles are suitable for use in both indoor and outdoor settings.
Q. In what circumstances would you use a movement joint profile?
A. A movement joint profile is designed to manage any unexpected movement. This product is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Q. How do you calculate how many joint profiles to use within your flooring area?
A. An expansion joint profile should be used every 60m2 for grip slab and every 40m2 for drift slab. In all indoor cases there should be no more than 8m between each joint. Outside you should place a joint profile every 20m2 with a maximum of 5m between each one. A movement joint profile should be used every 25-30m.
Q. What is the minimum width space you need for a joint profile?
A. The minimum is 5mm.
Q. Can you use a movement joint profile or an expansion joint profile with Durabase Cl++?
A. Yes you can use an expansion joint. It must be seated in both the floor and the glue. If the flag is older than 2 months the matting can be placed on top. New joints must be placed over the Cl++.
A movement joint can also be used but must be seated on the matting and glue.
Q. Can you seal a movement or expansion joint?
A. Yes you can seal the joint profiles with Durabase WP or Cl++
Q. What is the difference between thin-bed installation and thick-bed installation?
A. Thin-bed installation is when the tile is directly fixed to the subfloor with glue mortar. Thick-bed installation is when the tile is fixed to the mortar screed.
Q. Do the profiles have different load performances?
A. Yes depending on which profile is selected. They range from heavy load to antiseismic for public buildings.
Q. Can the profile joints be used horizontally and vertically?
A. Yes both a movement joint profile and an expansion joint profile can be used throughout the construction.
